Rebuild Penn Station Endorses the Effort to Reconstruct the Cathedral of Notre Dame

New York, NY—Rebuild Penn Station sends its deepest sympathies to the people of France in the wake of the devastating fire that destroyed much of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

According to Justin Shubow, Executive Director of Rebuild Penn Station, a campaign to reconstruct McKim, Mead & White's original Penn Station in New York, "Notre Dame is not just an architectural masterpiece, it is one of the greatest products and symbols of French, and indeed human, history.  We at Rebuild Penn Station enthusiastically support the effort, announced by President Macron, to reconstruct Notre Dame. The reconstruction ought to be done as faithfully as possible to what was destroyed. The skills, craftmanship, and talent to build with the traditional methods required for a reconstruction still exist. In fact, there are numerous recent, highly successful reconstructions of demolished monumental buildings, including the Frauenkirche church in Dresden and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. It is imperative that Notre Dame be added to that list, just as New York's original Penn Station ought to be, too."
